Woody Strode, a true HOLLYWOOD trailblazer, carved a unique path from star athlete to cinematic legend, breaking color barriers along the way.

Born on July 25, 1914, in Los Angeles, California, Strode's journey began in a city that would later witness his rise to fame and legacy. His early years in Los Angeles laid the foundation for a remarkable life that spanned football stardom, groundbreaking acting roles, and a brief but impactful wrestling career.Strode's athletic prowess surfaced during his high school days at Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles. Excelling in both football and track, he exhibited the skills that would later propel him into the national spotlight. His achievements caught the attention of UCLA, where he continued to shine as a Decathlete. In 1939, Strode's name became synonymous with breaking barriers when he, alongside Jackie Robinson, shattered racial restrictions in football and track at UCLA.






The defining moment in Strode's football career occurred when he entered the NFL in 1946, joining the Los Angeles Rams. His journey into professional football marked a historic breakthrough, as he became one of only two players to break the color barrier in the NFL at that time.

Transitioning from the football field to the silver screen, Strode's acting career blossomed with his debut in "SERGEANT RUTLEDGE." Strode's breakthrough came with his powerful role in "Spartacus," earning him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
